Luxury Hotel Rooms - What a View!
And so beautiful, so distant, waikiki beach with all the skyscraper hotels lining the beach seems so small. Standing on top of Diamond Head crater you are looking down at a city far below. " You ask yourself. Am I that high up, "Wow?
Hawaii, you are on your adventure exploring Diamond Head in Oahu.
Or just follow the signs, ask a local, you can find directions on any tourist map, to get there. You can still see the concrete placements. Complete with bunkers and cannons mounted on the rim, it served as an army depot, during WWII. Diamond Head is an extinct volcano that blew it top a long time ago.
It can be a long dusty walk! Take plenty of water. You then climb 100 steps and go into a concrete tunnel, as you get to the top of the path. You have to climb up a long windy path on the inside of the rim that is Diamond Head, to get to the best view of Waikiki beach.
Up and Up and up! You'll get to a rusty iron spiral staircase that you ascend. Proceed to the back, once you are in the tunnel.
And duck your head down to pass through to the outside, you have to squeeze through a narrow opening, if you want to get the best view, but. You can look out through the narrow slits around the edge. And emerge inside a WWII bunker (no gun), you eventually get to the top.
But the view is already fantastic, there is one more higher place you can step up too if you want! You climb a few more steps and end up on the roof of the bunker, to go higher up. Now you are on a narrow path that winds around the bunker.
It is definitely worth the effort. You'll get there. And have patience, just expect to wait, so. It can get crowded on a popular day, however. It has been a long walk and you have earned the view. Take your time and really look around. But more and more to see, there are fewer and fewer places to stand, the top, the path outside, the bunker, at each place you get to.
